From the Principal's Pen
Monday, October 21st
Welcome Back BMS Students and Parents,
We appreciate all that attended our Parent-Teacher Conferences on Monday, October 14th and Tuesday, October 15th prior to Fall Break. First quarter grades were handed out on each of those nights along with State Testing data from Spring of 2019. If you were unable to attend, each of these will be mailed out this week. Don't hesitate to contact us here at the MS if you do not receive these by the end of the week, October 25th.
This week kicks off Red Ribbon week with activiites planned each day beginning today with our Rise and Shine Assembly in the Freeland Center. Our October TRRFCC Pirates were recognized along with students who have read 1/2 Million Words, FFA members who showed in the Tulsa State Fair, and Choir students who were selected for the Eastern District Honor Choir. Appreciate all the hard work off all our students and teachers through the 1st quarter of the year. I appreciate Mr. DJ Boles, owner of Oklahoma Gourmet Popcorn, who was our Guest Speaker today during the assembly. He provided a great message encouraging kids to be resiiant in all that they do and always look to give back and do for others. On Tuesday, Mr. Mike Keahbone will be speaking to MS and HS students at our Red Ribbon assembly. We look forward to another great message from Mr. Keabone on Tuesday.
Student Council will again be hosting the BMS Halloween Dance on Tuesday, October 29th from 6-8 pm in the MS gym. Students must be academically eligible to attend the dance and tickets can be purchased before school or at lunch for $5 or 5 Pirate bucks from Mrs. Busch.
Preliminary results are in from the Spring State Testing and we are pleased to say that 6 of 7 tested subjects were above state average. We appreciate the hard work of all our students and staff this past year and look forward to continuing to look for ways to improve ourselves and our students in and out of the classroom.
I am pleased to inform you that we will be implementing a new visitor check-in here at Bristow Middle School that will be both easy to use and enhance the safety of our students, faculty, and staff. School Safe ID will require all visitors to present a valid state-issued ID. The system will compare the visitor's name and date of birth to the national database of registered sex offenders. The new system will be in place when school begins this Fall on Monday, August 12th.
We will also be implementing an anonymous reporting system for students and parents to report harmful, inappropriate, or unsafe behavior that students or parents may be aware of here at school or with one of our students. This program is called STOPit and can be downloaded from the app store and can be activated by using an access code developed by the district for Bristow Middle School.
We appreciate you working collaboratively with your student, his/her teachers, and all staff to ensure that your student is successful academically and behaviorally here at Bristow Middle School. Our goals for our students continue to be the A,B, C's. Attendance is the 1st priority in helping your child be successful here at school and later in life. School begins at 8 am and students are expected to be on time with materials to all classes in which they attend. Behavior in the classroom, hallways, athletic events, and on campus is also one of our goals. We follow the 6 Pillars of Character- Trustworthy, Respectful, Responsible, Fairness, Caring, Citizenship, and expect all students to adhere to these Pillars of Character in and out of the classroom. Our third goal is Course Performance, teachers have worked very hard to ensure that all students are improving in all classes and monitor their progress continually to provide either enrichment or intervention for each individual student. If you have any questions about how your student is progressing in a particular class, I encourage you to contact his/her teacher and discuss their performance.
You can also access your child's grades anytime through STI. Directions for logging on can be found on the district website at bristow.k12.ok.us. You can also contact us here at the MS for assistance with username or password.
If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact us.
