January marks School Board Recognition Month, a statewide initiative to honor the more than 2,700 elected officials who dedicate their time to Oklahoma’s students. Here in Bristow, it is a vital opportunity to recognize the local leaders who steer our district toward success.
A Message from the Superintendent
“Providing our community’s children with a solid education is the most important investment we can make,” says Superintendent Curtis Shelton. “We’re proud of our district, and this month is the perfect time to say thank you and celebrate the accomplishments of our elected board members.”
More Than Just a Title
Our board members are driven by a singular mission: helping students achieve in school and in life. Their roles are multifaceted and carry significant weight:
Policy & Voice: They develop the frameworks for our schools and act as the bridge between the community and school operations.
Fiscal Responsibility: They oversee an annual budget of $20,972,152.
Direct Impact: Their decisions support 1,685 students, 230 employees, and 4 school sites.
Beyond the logistics, these individuals embody the character qualities we hope to instill in our students: trustworthiness, citizenship, and responsibility.
