Bristow, OK—Bristow Public Schools' commitment to building the next generation of aerospace professionals has been recognized statewide, as high school science teacher Vicki Wilson was named the Oklahoma Society for Technology in Education (OKSTE) "IT" Teacher of the Year.
The prestigious OKSTE award, officially known as the "Making IT Happen" Teacher of the Year, recognizes an educator from an OKSTE member district who demonstrates excellence in integrating technology into classroom teaching and learning. Winners must model the ISTE Educator Standards by designing, implementing, and assessing technology-rich learning experiences that engage students, enhance professional practice, and provide exemplary models for colleagues and the community. Bristow's Aerospace Education Pipeline
Wilson, a high school science teacher, has cultivated a multi-tiered aerospace program designed to give students both a strong educational foundation and a direct path to in-demand careers.
Physics of Flight: This introductory course, offered to freshmen, allows students to earn a physics credit while exploring the aviation world. Key topics include the forces of flight, aircraft systems, and performance, often involving exploration of local aerospace businesses and learning what it takes to become a pilot.
Aeronautics & Aviation Pilot/Drone: For students ready to commit to an aviation path, Bristow offers more specific courses. The Aviation Pilot/Drone course is particularly crucial, as it prepares students to take the FAA ground school test—a vital credential for aspiring pilots and drone operators. Students dive into weather, airports and airspace, and flight planning.
Aviation Maintenance Track: Students inclined toward mechanical and technical work are supported through an Aviation Maintenance track, utilizing the Choose Aerospace curriculum. This program teaches basic mechanical skills, tools, and aviation-specific materials, safety, and measurement techniques, including flightline safety, electricity, and aircraft materials.
