The Central Tech Careers class has been learning about jobs in the Healthcare and Human Services career clusters.

Students have been able to participate in amazing hands-on activities to learn job skills, as well as valuable life skills. In healthcare, students learned how to perform adult and infant CPR and take vitals such as temperature, heart rate, pulse ox, and blood pressure.

In human services, the students were also introduced to cosmetology and infant care. During our cosmetology unit, they each received their own mannequin and learned how to section the hair, use palm shearers, perform a straight cut, and style. They wrapped up the cluster with infant care, where the students learned how to pick up a baby, change a diaper, swaddle, and bathe a newborn.

It’s been an exciting few weeks!

C. Biggs and G. Stephens represented the Bristow EXPLORERS class at Central Tech this week. They met with administrators, counselors, parents, and other students from across the district for the EXPLORERS Advisory Committee Meeting. The girls provided feedback on what they love about the Careers class, as well as other things they would like to see changed or added.

This year, RRW coincided with our first essay-writing unit. Today, we were revising our rough drafts with some revision strategies I taught them, and I also designed an A.I. chat bot to specifically ask questions that would take students deeper into the revision process. It just so happens that today, we are "RED RIBBON REVISIONISTS" 💜💛❣️

Without cell phones, BMS students are learning to communicate face-to-face with their peers during lunch and class times! We love seeing the students talking and having fun instead of in their phones.

Have you ever thought about joining Speech or Debate??

Mrs. Frizzell's 1st and 7th hour Middle School Speech and Debate classes made a poster briefly outlining what speech and debate is!

Each student in the class then wrote what speech and debate means to them, why they like it, or why it has helped them so far. Becoming a successful public speaker helps students become confident and successful adults and communicate better in a world that is valuing face-to-face communication less and less.

Middle School speech and debate will go to their first tournament in November!
