Mrs. Smythe, our librarian, brought two 3D printers to Edison. The students and staff love watching the creations come alive! What is something you'd like to see us try to make?

We have a few new faces at Edison this year. Now that we have gotten into the routine, it is time to introduce you to the new Crew on the Ship. Meet Mrs. Martin. She is our new Art teacher. We are confident that you have seen the cute artwork coming home and hear the funny stories the kids like to tell. Instead of the boring, “get to know you” questions, we decided to go a little deeper. Please help us welcome Mrs. Martin to the Pirate Family. We love her and know you will, too! * What is one of your hidden talents? -My focus in college was Sculpture and my secondary focus was Ceramics-I would say my hidden talent is metalwork and being able to MIG weld, TIG weld, and use most metalworking, machinery. Plus lots of experience with foundry work involving bronze casting. * What would the students be surprised to find out about you? - That I’ve been skydiving before * What is your dream vacation? -Probably the Czech Republic. My father’s family is from there and I’ve never visited. I also love New Mexico-especially Taos, Red River, Albuquerque, and Madrid. Greece and Spain are on my bucket list as well. * What are your “trapped on a desert island” books or movies? -“Big Magic” by Elizabeth Gilbert changed my life I also love “Women Who Run With the Wolves” by Carissa Pinkola Estes Anything involving women’s empowerment and nature * What makes a “good day” at school? - A day where I can share my love of art with my students and get through the lesson with minimal distractions. * How do you show your school spirit? - I Love to wear Purple on Friday *What is the best/worst thing about being a teacher? - BEST: That I get to educate others about art and the importance of art. Worst: Discipline

Second Grade is learning all about erosion. Ask your second grader what that means, how it occurs, and why it is important . They will be able to tell you!

See You at the Pole (SYATP) is a student led global day of prayer and unity in Christ, where students gather to pray for their schools, families, friends, churches, and communities. The event takes place annually on the fourth Wednesday in September, usually before school, and at the school's flag pole. Edison had students who participated in leading this event this morning. It was a beautiful morning with beautiful weather.

First graders have been taste testing apples. They learn to sort, graph the color, taste, etc. They learn what a poll is and what it's used for. They guess and make predictions. There are so many ways to learn so many different things. What can you do at home to incorporate these skills?

Learning is fun at Edison. While learning about the letter D, they also practiced learning the letters in their name. Getting help from our High School Leadership students is icing on the cake! Practice at home- letter names, placement, and the sounds the letters make. First and last names... all great skills for our tiny Pirates

Families, We are excited to offer bigger, better Accelerated Reader incentives this year! We would like to take students on field trips for every goal (free of charge!). We will continue to offer prizes for goal increments, but would also like to acknowledge the 100 point club students with special medals and an exclusive field trip at the end of the year. We have decided to have our first ever Fundraiser outside of our popcorn sales. This is an exciting opportunity to purchase Bristow Pirate gear for a good cause! Blankets will arrive before Christmas -so think of all the gifts! All orders are due October 11th!

Dig in those couch cushions and find a quarter. Thursday, PreK will be conducting their annual cookie sale in the PreK Commons. Each year the students and teachers work hard with this to raise money that will be donated to the Children's Hospital at St. Francis in honor of our current and former students who have battled childhood cancer. This is not just a great way to raise money, but a great teaching tool as well. Students get hands on practice with measuring ingredients, preparing the cookies, setting up lines, asking for money and handing out the cookies. Quarters will be accepted, but please feel free to send any donations that you feel led to give. We will update with all of the fun on Thursday. Lastly, each student at Edison will receive 1 cookie regardless of their ability to pay for one or not. We love this and every student will have an opportunity to enjoy this day.
